Country Road Pitch

The Brief:
Iconic Australian brand Country Road, is looking for a new strategy for their 2013 Women's summer line. They want you to generate some concepts for a full direct mail/catalogue and web campaign that will be rolled out in September 2013. They are looking for a fresh, new theme that ties with their current branding and offers a unique 'edge' over their competition. Country Road would also like some ideas about how they can extend their branding to smart phones and would like you to prepare some concepts on how to make their brand more multi-dimensional. Country Road competitors can be identified as retailers, "Jigsaw", "Saba" and "David Lawrence". Have a look at the current branding for Country Road's Women's line and compare with competitors. As a group, create an overall theme and mood board for Country Road that pitches a new and unique theme for the Summer line.

Our Studio, Studio E:
You are a team of freelance designers that work in a co-op studio. Together you have some local contracts and generate an annual combined income of $200, 000 per year. You are thinking of starting a studio together and winning the Country Road account would be a great client to solidify this business. You will have all six staff members work on the pitch, they each command a salary equivalent to $25 per hour.

-------------
For this, I worked on the website. I tried to keep it similar to what they have already got (so that the brand identity is not lost) however, I utilized the new colours that we picked for the Summer Range.

Sustainabilty of the Packaging Industry

As a group compile a list of packaging manufacturers in Australia and answer the following:
 - Discuss how the companies identified utilize eco-friendly design and sustainable practices.

Olympus Packaging

OLYMPUS is making every effort to introduce & promote a growing range of attractive & cost effective "environmentally responsible" products. These include: biodegradable carry Bags, bleach free products, recyclable products, paper carry bags, paper coffee cups.

MPI Australia
MPI Australia uses a technique called MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packing) where the food is packaged in a way, which the earth’s normal breathable atmosphere has been modified in some way. This modification is usually combined with a lowered temperature, which means it is a highly effective method of extending the shelf life of a wide range of food products.  The environmental benefit of this method is a minimization of waste. Using the MAP method food can be displayed longer with a greater chance of being sold, prolonging the need for it be thrown away.
Individually, an info-graphic (only using vector graphics and symbols) A3 poster that compares eco-friendly packaging  to standard packaging processes.

What is Intellectual Property??

Our group was asked to research and look at the case "Benchmark Building Supplies Ltd v Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Ltd & Anor (2003). We were asked to asked to research the case and prepare a short 5min (oral and visual) presentation that addresses the following:

- Summary of the case
- Image examples of what was distributed
- Understanding of outcome and how its related to IP law in Australia/New Zealand
- Is the case an example of copyright, trademark or patent law?

This was a very interesting case to look at, and at first I assumed that it was a case of infringement of copyright, however turns out it wasnt.

What is graphic design? (poster)

A student defined graphic design as.. "graphic design is like a road map, visually helping people to their destination". In order to represent this definition through the use of only colour and type, I decided to make the design relevant to the quotation. Because graphic design is like a "road map" the text has been placed in a way that looks as though it could be the lines of a map. And because graphic design is "leading people to their destination" so too, is the type leading to the word destination.  I added grid lines   in the background to give the poster more of a "map" feel.
